Choosing a Costume for a Fancy Dress Party

There is nothing quite as exciting and tons of fun as a fancy dress party. It’s a time when everyone can let their hair down and that goes for guys even if they haven't got any when they wear a wig!

But for all the fun and frolics that can be had at one of these often outrageous parties, there is still the major pre-party decision to be made: Which costume to wear?

This article kicks off this fun time blog by getting us past what is often a stumbling block to the best enjoyment you can have in choosing the right outfit for the event. So welcome to my little old blog and let's get this part of the deal straight before we do anything else!

What is the Party Theme?

Thankfully, most fancy dress parties you will ever be invited to will have a certain theme to help narrow down the choices of costume that you can wear and thus reducing the stress and hassle levels all the way down. As long as you have a good idea of what kind of themed style you'll need to fit in with, you can choose accordingly from what's available.

Take for instance a cowboy or Wild West themed party. That's an easy one! How many different ways can you dress up as a cowboy or cowgirl? Or what about a Doc Holiday style saloon poker player design, or a Sheriff or deputy style of outfit?

Super hero parties are always popular and that gives you plenty of room to be creative without overwhelming you with choices. The knack is in getting a great outfit that several other guests didn't choose to wear a well. That's easily sorted out if the party organizer puts up a Facebook page or a blog with a checklist of outfits that people can say, "I'll be wearing that one!"

Free For All

It's those "come in whatever you want" types of revelry that can be hard on the creative juices. That's because while you might see a great outfit that you would love to wear, its often a dilemma where you're not sure if it will be right for the particular party or not.

Never fear, there is always a pretty simple solution to every suitable attire problem. The best rule of thumb is if you're not sure if a costume is too outlandish or too garish, then tone it down and go for something that's both a little plainer while still being fun.

Again, it pays to plan the party ahead with a community page online where guests can forewarn others that they'll be coming as such and such.

Whatever you choose to wear at the next fancy dress party you're invited to, remember, its all about enjoying yourself, having loads of fun and everyone having a good time!
